How to Take Part in a Car Auction in Europe

EU Car Auctions gathers listings from auction sites all over Europe, but the bidding always happens on the original site. When you find a car here, you follow the link to the source auction, register there and place your bid on their platform. If you win and need a hand with the paperwork or getting the car home, we can help.
Every site works a little differently, so below is a step-by-step guide for each one, including the fees on top of your bid, how long you have to pay and how long you have to move the car before storage costs start. First, two things worth understanding.
Many cars have a reserve price. This is a minimum price the seller has set but kept hidden. If the highest bid stays below it, the seller does not have to sell: they may accept your bid anyway, contact you to negotiate or relist the car. So being the top bidder only secures the car once the bidding has passed that hidden minimum.
There are also two closing styles. A fixed deadline means the auction ends at the set time and a last-second bid can win. Extended bidding means any bid in the final minutes pushes the end time out, again and again, until nobody bids. Bids are almost always binding, and cars are sold in their existing condition, so read the listing before you bid.
Finland
Copart Finland (copart.fi)
Finland's largest auction site for mostly salvage and damaged cars.
- Register: Create a membership at copart.fi and upload a government ID. Your password comes by email.
- Deposit: Some auctions need a refundable security deposit before you can bid, and your bidding limit is tied to it.
- Log in and open the vehicle.
- Bid: Place an advance bid or join the live online auction, where the system bids up to your maximum or you bid live yourself.
- Closing: A live auction that runs in real time, not a fixed countdown.
- On top of your bid: copart.fi charges several fees that vary by location and are shown on the site, including a membership fee, a registration fee, a service fee, an online bid fee, a pickup fee and a buyer fee in the range of 6-12% depending on the final bid. Check the fee list for your location before bidding.
- Payment: Pay the price and all fees by the deadline in the terms, or a late payment fee applies.
- Collection: Book a pickup time and collect on time. If you miss a booked pickup, the vehicle is returned to guarded storage and is not released until you have paid an extra pickup fee and a late pickup fee. The exact deadlines and amounts are shown per location.
Huutokaupat (huutokaupat.com)
A large Finnish auction site selling all kinds of goods and equipment.
- Register: Sign up at huutokaupat.com with an email, username and password. Buyers outside Finland need an international company account that support verifies, so allow time and expect them to contact you to finish the setup.
- Log in and open the listing.
- Bid: Enter your amount (it defaults to the minimum next step, or go higher). Automatic bidding is available.
- Closing: Extended bidding. A lot ends only once no bid has come in for the last three minutes.
- On top of your bid: A small handling fee is added to each auction.
- Payment: Usually within one business day of winning, but it depends on the agreement.
- Collection: Arrange a pickup time with the seller and collect promptly after paying. Delivery is often available for a fee. Items left uncollected can run up extra costs.
Kiertonet (kiertonet.fi)
A Finnish auction platform for all kinds of goods and equipment.
- Register: Create a free account at kiertonet.fi. Anyone can take part.
- Log in and open the listing.
- Bid: Place a binding offer. An autobid and a watchlist are available.
- Closing: Extended bidding. A bid in the last three minutes extends the auction by a few minutes.
- On top of your bid: Usually no separate buyer fee, though some lots add a service or office fee. The VAT status (0% or standard) is shown on each listing.
- Payment: If you win and the seller accepts, you get payment details by email. The window is tight, often only a few days, and a late payment can void the sale.
- Collection: Collect from the seller's location at your own cost within the stated time, or storage costs may apply. Kiertonet does not deliver. Sold as seen.
- Note: The highest offer is not automatically a win. The seller, a public body, has to accept it, and some sales need a board or council decision.
Huuto (huuto.net)
A Finnish auction platform for all kinds of goods and equipment.
- Register: Create a free account at huuto.net. Sellers verify with bank credentials; buyers register with a username.
- Log in and open the listing.
- Bid: Bid in an auction, or use Buy Now (Osta heti). An autobid raises your bid to your maximum.
- Closing: Extended bidding under a five-minute rule. A bid in the last five minutes moves the close to five minutes after the last bid.
- On top of your bid: A buyer service fee of 0.39 euros plus 4% of the price, capped at about 39 euros and shown before you buy, plus shipping.
- Payment: Through Huuto.net's protected payment (Huuto Turva) for many items, or arranged directly with the seller when that is not used.
- Collection: Shipping (Huutopaketti) or pickup by arrangement. As a general marketplace, exact payment and collection terms can vary by seller, so read the listing.
Norway
Auksjonen (auksjonen.no)
A Norwegian auction platform selling used vehicles, machinery and equipment, much of it from businesses.
- Register: Create a free account at auksjonen.no as a private person or company. It takes about two minutes; your email is your username and the password needs at least six characters.
- Log in and open the listing.
- Bid: Place a bid, or use the autobid.
- Closing: Extended bidding. A bid in the final minutes extends the auction.
- On top of your bid: An auction fee per item, shown on each listing, plus VAT on the fee.
- Payment: You get a purchase contract by email within two working days of the auction ending and pay to Auksjonen's client account. Payment is due right away. If it is not paid within five working days, the order is cancelled and relisted, and the buyer is blocked and charged for the breach.
- Collection: You cover all pickup and transport costs. Once payment is registered you get a delivery confirmation with contact details, and the location is in the listing. Arrange pickup in good time.
- If the reserve is not met: Auksjonen negotiates with the seller on your behalf.
FINN.no auctions (finn.no)
FINN.no is Norway's biggest marketplace, and alongside fixed-price cars it carries auction listings you can bid on.
- Spot the auction: Look for a bidding format with a closing time and a bid history rather than a fixed price, and check the seller named on the listing.
- Register where the auction runs: If the seller is an auction house, follow the link and create an account there to bid (Norwegian houses verify with BankID).
- Bid: Place a manual bid or an autobid up to your maximum. Bids are binding.
- Closing: These listings run as extended bidding, so a bid in the last few minutes pushes the end time out.
- On top of your bid: An auction fee plus VAT on the fee, and on a vehicle the state re-registration fee. The total shows before you confirm.
- Payment: You get a contract and invoice by email after the auction and pay within the stated deadline.
- Collection: Arrange pickup once payment is registered, at your own cost, from the location in the listing.
- Note: Terms vary with whichever auction house is running the sale, so check its rules. Auksjonen.no is covered above.

A Nordic auction selling used vehicles, machinery and equipment, mostly from companies, across Sweden, Denmark and Finland.

- Closing: Extended bidding. A bid in the last three minutes pushes the end out by three more.
- On top of your bid: A buyer fee that varies by object (shown once you are logged in), plus VAT on that fee.
- Payment: Within seven days of winning. Klaravik contacts the top bidder within two working days.
- Collection: Within 12 days, or a weekly storage fee starts (around 50 euros, or 500 SEK/DKK, per week). If it is still not collected after 30 business days, the sale can be cancelled and the car resold. Foreign buyers must export the car straight after collection.
- If the reserve is not met: Your bid stays binding for two working days while Klaravik tries to close the deal.
Kvdcars (kvdcars.com)
A large Swedish used-car auction selling inspected cars from dealers, leasing companies and private sellers.

- On top of your bid: A mediation fee plus VAT where it applies.

- Collection: Book a time and collect within three working days (cars and light trucks), or storage fees start. Collecting without a booked time adds an admin fee.

A general Swedish marketplace; among its used goods you will find cars and car parts from private sellers and businesses.
- Register: Create an account at tradera.com. Swedish users verify with BankID.
- Log in and open the listing.
- Bid: Place a bid (use the maximum-bid feature if you like) or buy at a fixed price.
- Closing: Fixed deadline. The auction ends at the set time with no extension, so a last-second bid can win.
- On top of your bid: No buyer fee. You pay the bid plus shipping.
- Payment and collection: Set by the seller, not by Tradera. Pay through the method the seller offers, then arrange pickup or delivery directly with them, so check the listing for their terms.
Kronofogden (kronofogden.se)
The Swedish Enforcement Authority's auctions, selling cars and other property seized to settle unpaid debts.
- Register: Sign up at kronofogden.se, in the auctions section. You normally need a Swedish identity or organisation number and a postal address; buyers without one can register manually. Anyone can watch the bidding without an account.
- Log in and open the listing.
- Bid: Manual or maximum bid.
- Closing: Extended bidding. A bid near the end adds two minutes.
- On top of your bid: Nothing; you pay only your bid.
- Payment: By card within two days. For higher-value lots such as more expensive cars, a 10% deposit is due immediately, with the balance within the stated period.
- Collection: Within the period stated on the lot. The rules on collecting on time changed on 1 July 2026, so check the lot. Sold as seen, no returns.
- Note: There is a lowest accepted price, and the Authority reviews the top bid afterwards and can decline it, so winning is not final until that review passes.

- Payment: Pay the invoice in full before you can collect.
- Collection: On the pickup day stated on the order, usually within about five to seven business days. Late collection triggers storage and handling fees (for example 2,500 SEK a week on some lots).
- If the reserve is not met: Within three working days the seller either accepts your bid, negotiates or relists.
Central Europe
Troostwijk Auctions (troostwijkauctions.com)
A large Benelux business auction selling industrial machinery, equipment and vehicles, often from companies and insolvencies.

Romu (romu.ee)
An Estonian auction selling wrecked and used vehicles, with a spare-parts shop alongside.
- Register: Sign up at romu.ee with your full name, ID number and a valid email.
- Viewing: View the vehicle in advance at the sales premises, Saku Üksnurme tee 14, before bidding.
- Bid: Place your bid online.
- Closing: This is the part to watch. After the online auction ends, a telephone auction continues with everyone who bid, until the highest bidder wins and nobody wants to go higher. The highest online bid is not automatically the winner. The on-screen timer shows the time left to register a bid for that phone round.
- On top of your bid: Check the listing. Sold without warranty unless marked.
- Payment: Once the owner accepts the sale price, you get an invoice and contract, and pay on that basis. Late payment carries a fine of 0.2% a day of the final bid, and unpaid invoices go to debt collection after a month.
- Collection: Collect from Üksnurme road 14, Saku parish, Harju county, after payment (unless the listing says otherwise). A storage fee applies if you do not collect by the due date on the contract.
- Reserve: If a lot has a reserve price, which is double the starting price, the owner is committed to sell once it is met. On a regular lot without a reserve the owner is not obliged to sell.
Weby (weby.ee)
One of the Baltics' largest auctions for insurance write-offs and damaged vehicles.
- Register: Register at weby.ee with correct details (18+). To place bids you authenticate with an Estonian ID card, or continue without it and the team activates your account after checking your details.
- Log in with your username and password, or with your ID card.
- Viewing: Check the vehicle details on the listing, and inspect it in advance where possible.
- Bid: The auction runs in two phases. First an initial offer phase, where you place an offer or set an autobid up to your maximum. Then real-time live bidding, where each lot has a one-minute clock that restarts every time someone bids, until nobody bids and the last bidder wins. Some items also have a fixed Buy Now price until the round starts.
- On top of your bid: The state fee for the change of owner at the vehicle registry, plus VAT where it applies. Note the odometer reading may not be accurate.
- Payment: Pay the invoice within seven days of receiving it. For items sold on commission by another seller, sign the sale contract within two working days of acceptance and pay within seven days of that. Fixed-price buys are paid immediately.
- Collection: After payment, remove the vehicle from the sales site (Nuhja, Kopli village, Rae parish, Harjumaa) within five working days of the invoice due date, or a storage fee of 5 euros a day (plus VAT) applies.

- On top of your bid: A service fee of 32 euros (plus VAT) for the registry paperwork the yard handles (change of owner, deregistration, export), plus any state fee.
- Payment: Provide your invoice details within 24 hours of winning, then pay the sale price per the invoice and sign the sale contract.
- Collection: Remove the vehicle from the yard within five working days of signing, or a storage fee of 3 euros a day applies.
- Note: Your bid is binding, even if it is the only one, but you are released if the yard does not accept within two working days. If you win and then fail to sign the contract, a penalty of 15% of the final price (minimum 350 euros) applies and the car is relisted. Sold as seen.
Before you bid, a quick checklist
- Confirm the total cost including any VAT or buyer fee, not just the bid figure.
- Check whether a deposit is required and whether it is refundable.
- Check the closing style, so a fixed deadline does not catch you out.
- Note the payment deadline, since most sites want payment within one to seven days.
- Note the collection deadline and how you will move the car, since storage fees or even a cancelled sale can follow if you are late.
- Remember a top bid below the hidden reserve may still need the seller's approval.
- Read the condition notes closely, since almost every car is sold in its existing condition with no returns.
Found a car worth bidding on? Follow the link from its listing, register on the source site and place your bid. If you win and need help with the paperwork or getting the car home, get in touch and we will help.
